Integrated Government Information System (IGIS)

Overall Implementation Status for 2013:

  • IGIS Phase 1 implementation targets to establish a government network infrastructure providing connectivity for fifty-two government offices in NCD and six (6) provincial headquarters namely Wewak (East Sepik), Vanimo (West Sepik), Kokopo (East New Britain), Kimbe (West New Britain), Goroko (Eastern Highlands) and Konedobu (Central), through a Government Data Centre in National Capital District. This includes providing basic communication services to government offices in these provinces including email, internet, video conferencing and VoIP. The total project cost is US$53 million funded through the China EXIM Bank concessional loan.
  • There are seven (7) components under the IGIS project Phase 1, which are completed and handed over to the Stateby the developer, Huawei Technology Limited of China.
  • As at 31 December 2013, forty-seven (47) office sites in NCD were connected to Government Data Centre at the Ground Floor of TelikomRumana Building where the Data Centre was set up. Five sites have moved office therefore re-connection is pending. The Data Centre is now in operation with staff supervising the Manage Services (MS) and Government Call Centre (GCC).
  • The major outstanding deliverables is the connectivity to the provincial headquarters and more important the offices already connected to be able to use the IGIS services.
