Government Addressing Legacy Issues Facing NBC: Minister Basil
Minister for Information and Communication and Energy, Hon Sam Basil said today he is progressively addressing the many legal issues affecting NBC operations throughout the country.
" I have had discussions with the Prime Minister to demolish the old studio buildings in the provinces to ensure our dedicated staff can work in a better and more modern broadcast environment.
" The management has also discussed with the Chief Secretary to Government on the medium to long term sustainability of the operations of NBC here at headquarters and in the provinces.
"IT is quite unfortunate that we have had to deal with legacy issues like the condemned NBC Morobe studio building, staff accommodation and aging infrastructure but this Government will continue to explore practical as well as lasting solutions to address them.
" These old studio buildings and equipment had not undergone regular maintenance or upgrading since they were transferred by the ABC to NBC in 1973.
Despite this, our delicate staff have ensured that NBC meet its obligation to maintain radio and television broadcast services to our people," Mr Basil said.
