Marape receives updates on status of MSG Secretariat
Prime Minister, Hon. James Marape, was recently briefed on the status of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) and other strategic priorities.
Mr Marape met with the Director - General of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Secretariat, Ambassador Amena Yauvoli, in Port Moresby on 9 July, and discussed the importance of convening the MSG Special Leaders’ Summit as well as its agenda.
Papua New Guinea is the current Chair of MSG and has confirmed that the Leaders’ Summit will convene in Port Vila, Vanuatu after the Pacific Islands Forum, which will be held from 12-16 August 2019 in Tuvalu.
The Leaders’ Summit in August will deliberate on key strategic priorities such as the MSG Climate Finance Strategy, Regional Security Strategy, MSG Trade Free Agreement and the extension of allowing Labor Mobility, MSG Political issues, Governance issues and strategic partnerships.
There will also be discussions surrounding the MSG Arts and Culture Program and MSG Sports Program, which includes the revival of the Melanesian Football Cup
It was the first meeting held between Mr Marape and the MSG officials.
